When looking for a place to eat during your visit to Niagara on the Lake, look no further. I tried the backhouse tasting menu. This included a variety of smaller dishes which were very fun but also incredibly tasty! Would recommend sitting along the counter. From here you can watch the chefs prepare food which can be a lot of fun! The place also has an extensive selection of local wines which can be paired with your meal.

An amazing experience. It is so reshreshing to be in a place that is totally devoted to providing a creative culinary offering. To be able to watch your meal be lovingly prepared and delivered to your table by people who love what they are doing...wow. Go there !!!!

Had a lovely meal here. We were sitting right in front of the chefs preparing the food. It was fascinating watching the three ladies working together, coordinating the dishes and dispatching them to the tables. Each of the dishes we ate we're delicious. We spent 3 hours to eat all the courses. I think if we'd have been waiting at a normal table we'd have been rather frustrated it the wait... with 40 minutes being the longest has between 2 of the courses. Indeed even with the entertaining chefs it was still a little too much waiting.Oh... the wood being burnt while we were there was Peach wood!

My wife and I went to Backhouse for our 2nd anniversary and it was one of the most memorable restaurant experiences we've ever had.1. Chef Ryan Crawford: obviously he is a brilliant chef, but he is really part of the whole experience. First, he greets guests as the hostess (and serves bubbly as we waited for our seats, nice touch!). Then throughout the night he can be seen in the kitchen helping the cooks, serving dishes, or just chatting with guests. We've never seen a chef so active!2. The concept: First, the farm to table is for real; our waiter actually harvested the potatoes for one of the dishes. We love hearing those kind of stories! Then, open kitchen is really cool. Recommend sitting at the bar to watch cooks prepare your food all night, it's worth it if you're a foodie. 3. The food and wine: last but not least, the food was amazing. You can tell the staff is passionate about the food, and it shows in the quality. Especially note worthy is how detailed the sommeliers describe the wine they are serving and why it pairs well with the dish. Overall, the Backhouse is a must for any foodie looking for a unique experience in Niagara-on-the-lake!

A trip to make once is a must.A complete tasting menu of a journey that you will not forget. From the moment you walk in you see the open kitchen with the Chef and staff cooking in front of you and you can get excited before you even get to your seat. The menu is typically farm to table with almost everything coming from the Niagara region. Amazing wine selection from local and world wines. Excellent options from budget friendly to the extravagant. I have been here twice now and each time I was not dissapointed. The dinner service is a bit long which is what you want when you are coming here from 2 - 3 hrs on average. This time we did the second largest plan they had and it took us over 3 hrs for dinner. So make sure you have a great date, and or good group of friends when coming here. From the presentation to the actual tastes you are amazed by everything. The details of each plate you get will take you a moment to digest it visually not just eat what is in front of you.Service is first class. This is a special place. One of the best I have been to in Niagara and even Ontario.Nice Work.
